The first internet exchange hub in Ticino

An Internet Exchange SwissIX hub is located at Moresi.com.

The hub – the ninth in Switzerland of the SwissIX association, the largest Swiss Internet Exchange Point- is the first in Ticino and represents a starting point for the entire Canton, to improve its Internet network in terms of efficiency and security.

An Internet Exchange Point or IXP is in fact a shared platform thanks to which various operators – be they Internet Service Providers (ISPs), telecommunications carriers , online content providers, and other types of bodies and companies in the area – can interconnect and agree to exchange Internet traffic freely. In this way, exchanges are optimized, increasing the efficiency and speed of broadband connections, also reducing access costs, to offer users a better service.

The first internet exchange hub in Ticino

An Internet Exchange SwissIX hub is located at Moresi.com.

The hub – the ninth in Switzerland of the SwissIX association, the largest Swiss Internet Exchange Point- is the first in Ticino and represents a starting point for the entire Canton, to improve its Internet network in terms of efficiency and security.

An Internet Exchange Point or IXP is in fact a shared platform thanks to which various operators – be they Internet Service Providers (ISPs), telecommunications carriers , online content providers, and other types of bodies and companies in the area – can interconnect and agree to exchange Internet traffic freely. In this way, exchanges are optimized, increasing the efficiency and speed of broadband connections, also reducing access costs, to offer users a better service.

The platform located in the Data Center is composed by a Brocade Switch MLXe completely managed by SwissIX association, which already manages other 9 Data Centers around Switzerland.

This platform is now able to offer 1Gbit/sec or 10Gbit/sec connections and is ready to support connections 100Gbit/sec connections.

To date, there are more than 220 members on this platform: the complete list is available on the SwissIX website at the following address: https://www.swissix.ch/participation/participants

The interconnection between the Data Center platform and the main hubs in Zurich consists of multiple redundant 10Gbit/sec Layer2 connections provided by separate telecom operators to provide geographical redundancy.

The connections are connected on core nodes in different Data Centers in the Zurich area: E-Shelter and Equinix.

To connect to the platform it is necessary to have an AS number (Autonomous System), a space of independent IP addresses  (PI) or aggregated (PA), and at least a Class C (/24).

All the technical details and the necessary requirements to connect are available in English on the SwissIX website:

In order to reach the infrastructure at the Data Center, the customer can contact the operators on site in complete autonomy, or ask for Moresi.com’s support in order to be introduced to an operator on service and work out together the best connection solution.

Moresi.com with his staff is available to support the client into the process of connecting to the Internet Exchange SwissIX and and provide a complete BGP routing solution. Thanks to its partner it is also able to offer redundant interconnection solutions, operating in collaboration with various telecommunication operators.

Given Moresi.com’s willingness to support the growth and use of this platform, boosting local technological development, the access costs regard covering the costs of the platform, and management that SwissIX provides to ensure the quality of services.
